PTI Shows Conditional Willingness for Talks with PM Shahbaz Sharif

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has expressed conditional willingness to engage in dialogue with Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif, provided he possesses the authority to make key decisions.

While speaking to SAMAA TV, Senator Shibli Faraz, the Opposition Leader in the Senate, clarified PTI's position on political talks. “We can talk with anyone regarding national issues,” said Faraz, “but the reality is that those currently in power have nothing in their hands.”

He emphasized that PTI had earlier withdrawn from dialogue due to what he described as the government’s lack of seriousness. “Keeping PTI’s founding leader in jail will not bring political stability,” he added, referring to Imran Khan, who remains incarcerated.

Faraz asserted that PTI seeks dialogue only with those who wield actual decision-making authority. “If Shahbaz Sharif can make decisions independently, we are ready to talk. But he himself is sitting at someone’s mercy,” Faraz remarked, hinting at perceived interference or influence from undisclosed power centers.

He went on to say, “We believe there is no use in holding talks just for the sake of optics. Dialogue should be meaningful and with those who matter.”

This statement reflects PTI’s growing frustration over what it perceives as powerlessness within the ruling coalition, and also signals that any attempt at reconciliation or negotiation must include actors with real political leverage.

The development comes at a time when political tensions remain high in Pakistan, with mounting calls from civil society and international observers for dialogue among political forces to restore democratic norms and economic stability.
